President Obama Focuses On Health & Patient Bill
of Rights In Weekly Address
Facing a tough political environment,
President Barack Obama on Saturday turned up the heat for the health care
overhaul that has been his top priority for a year, yet has not been passed by a
Democrat-dominated Congress.Obama used his weekly radio and Internet address to
focus on the health care overhaul and try to sway a public that has soured on
The legislation contains many of the
protections originally proposed in the bipartisan Patient’s Bill of Rights a
decade ago, plus additional protections and rights; and it will reduce costs for
families, strengthen Medicare, and lower the deficit.
He calls on the Senate to allow an
up-or-down vote, and for those opposing reform to stop using parliamentary
maneuvers to drag it out.
